JAZZ @ SINGAPORE

Jazz Radio Programme Review

Dedicated Jazz Programme every Sunday on Malaysia's Lite FM 94.6!

Saturday 23 October 2010

It has been a long time since Singapore had a dedicated jazz programme. Gold 90.5 FM Encuentro Latino featuring Latin jazz, bossa nova as well as salsa and tango music from 5-8pm followed by the Green Room Session till midnight ended when sponsors pulled out. Given the dearth of good jazz on Singapore radio nowadays, it is certainly time for the Singapore jazz fans to look beyond our shores! Yes, you can now relax to soothing jazz programmes from Lite FM's Johor Bahru station just across the causeway.

Lite FM

94.6 FM in Johor Bahru (Frequency varies with location)

8pm The Lite Lounge featuring smooth jazz

10pm Swing Time featuring big band, swing and traditional jazz

How does Lite's Jazz Programme Compare?

Lite vs Lush & Live - Although Lush 99.5 FM is not a jazz radio station and does not have any jazz programme, it was a favourite among Singapore jazz fans at its inception as it played a lot of favourite contemporary, Latin, bossa nova and other sub-genres of jazz. However, it seems lately to have shifted from its original target audience. While 938 Live officially plays smooth jazz especially during weekends, the great music is unfortunately interrupted by frequent and long news updates and other programmes.

Weak Radio Signal Indoor - While you can hear Lite FM well outdoors, it is a pity that the radio signal may be practically non-existent indoors.

Better Audio Quality Internet Radio - Unlike MediaCorp, Lite FM offers a higher audio quality Internet radio broadcast.

So tune in this Sunday and do let us know if you have any good radio station to share.
