CHIJMES 7TH ANNUAL JAZZ FESTIVAL - CHIJAZZ 2002

Keiko Matsui

While Japanese pianist Keiko is relatively new here compared to her counterpart, jazz vocalist Keiko Lee, her appearance will very likely start a new chapter for her career in Asia.

Right from the very first piece, Keiko and her band of excellent musicians never failed to mesmerise the crowd with her unique brand of contemporary jazz with a little mystic Japanese flavour. To some, her music reminded them of some New Age artistes including Kitaro.

Following her appearance at Chijmes, Keiko appeared on local TV and performed at the Kallang Theatre the following Monday, which was Deepavali.

Given the recent speculation that young and pretty female artistes are commanding the Bill Board charts, could Keiko be the next jazz poster gal?

Keiko is accompanied by:

Alberto De Almar (Guitar)

Mel Brown (Bass)

Jonathan Dresel (Drum) &

Michael Ghegan (Sax).
