Go Tutu Go!: What Lindy Means to Us?

What Lindy means to us? This is always a common topic among us. We can drone and drone about how we got into Lindy Hop and how it has changed our lives and so on. I shan't bog you down with the details but here's some interesting nuggets you might wanna mine.

Better Than Shopping?

To Ming, Lindy is better than shopping as a therapy. No, I say it is better than drugs! A friend once remarked that he doesn't understand why whenever he sees Lindy Hoppers dancing, there is always an uncontrollable smile on their face. Believe it or not, you can have the worst of days. But the moment you start dancing, all your troubles seem to dance away. This is not surprising given that the dance was created sometime during the Great Depression. If my friend has been an anti-narcotics officer, he'll be asking us, "What have you guys been smoking?" And I'll add, if your country has a drug problem, tell your President to make Lindy Hop a national sport.

Dancing Cheek to Cheek?

Seeing so many gorgeous men and lovely ladies dancing so closely together would make you think that "many a romance has blossomed between Lindy Hoppers", as Jeff puts it. Fen is one. She met her husband while she was teaching Lindy Hop and the man was her student.

Well, while there are some romances, it seems to be the exception than the rule. Ironically, many Lindy Hoppers have partners who do not Lindy Hop. But that does not bother them as it is their love for Lindy Hop that brings them there. If something happens, well and good. If not, they won't care for they probably love Lindy Hop more than love itself.

Or `Kungfu' Flying?

Not surprising, to many in the public, Lindy Hop means `Kungfu' Flying.
